8th Grade – 3rd, 4th, and 6th

Hey guys! We are going to be writing a feature article about Anne Frank during class for the next week or two. What you need to do today is to go do some research on the internet about Anne Frank. Find out a little bit more information about her, more than what we read about. After you complete that, begin typing a feature article. There are certain text features that a feature article has. You need to go to my school webpage

http://paris.kyschools.us/Schools/ParisMiddleHome/MSTeacherPages/MSJenniferSteele.aspx

and then go click on 7th grade Language Arts and then informational text (feature articles). Look at the example feature article (cairn terriers) and then look at feature article notes. You now know what exactly needs to go into your feature article. It needs to be between 2-3 pages with a 12 pt., legiable font. There needs to be a good amount of the text features in your article. Please type it with 3 columns. Again, look at the cairn terrier article as an example. It doesn’t have to follow that exact outline, but one pretty similar.

We will have today and 3 days when we complete this feature article.

If there is any time left or you choose to work on this assignment at home you may read SILENTLY.

Have fun!

Today 2nd, 5th and 7th

Today’s plan:

  1. Choose a person to write your feature article (they are under last week’s blog).
  2. Begin research on author.
  3. Begin feature article.

You have the outline for how it should look completed (we completed this yesterday). Remember, I asked for about a 3-page feature article. Do not make it more than a 12 pt. font (there will be times where you will need to make words larger but for the majority of your paper keep it at 12 pt.) and please use a font that I can read. Other than that have fun creating!

7th grade blog 3/21/12

Hey guys! The first thing that you need to do is to go to my school website here.

Now, go to the 7th Grade Language Arts link and click on it. Go into the documents and look at the Feature Article Power Point. Please take notes in your journal or on a piece of paper.

Now that you have learned a little more about Feature Articles post a comment below telling me the difference between a feature article and a regular article. You also need to choose one of the following authors to complete your feature article on. Once you have chosen please go and research him/her.

  1. Dr. Seuss
  2. Walter Dean Myers
  3. Shel Silverstein
  4. Suzanne Collins
  5. Judy Blume
  6. Stephenie Meyer
  7. J.K. Rowling
  8. Rick Riordan
  9. Cassandra Clare
  10. Louis Lowry

Once you have completed a little research site your source(s) in your comment (this way you won’t lose them!). It will be beneficial for you to have more than one source. If you are unsure as to how to site something research how to site a webpage or go to Easy Bib.

So…in case you missed it…you need to have watched the power point and then have:

1. The difference between a feature article and a normal article.

2. The author you will be researching.

3. Sources for your feature article.

If you complete your work early look up some feature articles on google. It is important that you see what makes a good feature article. Here are some examples:

The Titanic

TV Review

Breathing

Make sure that these feature articles have everything listed in the power point!
